Laura Ferris, the next woman in our You’re Enough campaign, is a real treat to get to know. She spreads sunshine everywhere she goes. That’s one of the beauty lessons she learned during her childhood – that how you present yourself can make you beautiful.
“I remember my Mom having a Mary Kay party when I was about 8 years old. The demo lady was so pretty, positive, and upbeat. That lady, unknown to her, left me with a sense of how to ‘present’ myself. I seemed more aware of my presentation to the world,” Laura said.
Turning 50 years old in 2021, Laura said her life has been shaped by her experiences: She’s never been married, but has had long-term relationships and has had a busy and varied work and personal life.
“I believe life has given me so many paths that I have a sense of independence and drive to never stop reaching and accomplishing my dreams. I have worn hats of a mother, grandma, caregiver during hospice to my loved ones, executive director for two area Chamber of Commerce, Reiki master, VP of my class in college, realtor, bar owner, cake decorator, and much more,” she said. “I guess I would say my life is well rounded and full of experiences.”
As to whether she feels beautiful, for Laura, that can depend partly upon what time of year it is because she suffers from seasonal depression.
“This is a very emotional time of year for me. If I have sunshine and warmth, I feel I share my joy and feel beautiful around other happy people,” she said.
Laura credits the Mary Kay company, which inadvertently brought that important beauty lesson into her life, with also giving her one of her most powerful moments.
“I grew to be a Mary Kay consultant in my early 20’s, and the training skills of that company made me realize there was nothing I could not do. My trail of life gives me layers of experience and strength to succeed in any field I choose,” she said.
Laura’s favorite non-physical feature about herself is her soul’s energy, which seems to draw people to her. For others who are struggling to see their own beauty, both inner and outer, she offers these words of wisdom.
“You are here on earth to share your light,” she said. “You have a future full of choices to help you be the brightest light you can be. Make good choices and that light will show you a future you have always desired. Never stop shining.”
As someone who has had three professional photo sessions taken during her life, Laura is a big fan of what having these images can do for a person.
“The uplift in self-esteem and confidence in a photoshoot allows me to see what others see,” she said.
After my session with Laura, I can tell you what I see: A positive, kind, and amazing woman who has so much good to offer this world. That’s one of my favorite things about the You’re Enough campaign and my job overall – all the wonderful people I meet.
All my best,
Suvi
